Raoul Carlo Angangco (Choral Conductor, Counter-tenor)

Born: Philippines

The Filipino choral conductor and counter-tenor and composer, Raoul Carlo F. (Miggi) Angangco, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, Minor in Music Literature, from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2013. He served as President of the world-renowned Ateneo College Glee Club from 2011-2012, being part of the touring rosters that reaped top prizes in several competitions across Europe - most notably participating in the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing held in Maribor, Slovenia in the summer of 2012. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Conducting, summa cum laude, at the University of Philippines College of Music, recently earned his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting, with distinction, from Westminster Choir College, and will be starting his Doctor of Music degree in Choral Conducting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in the Fall of 2021. He has studied conducting with Janet Sabas-Aracama, Mark Anthony Carpio, Dr. Eudenice Palaruan, Dr. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng, Gabriel Crouch, Dr. Joe Miller, Simon Carrington, and Dr. James Jordan.

Raoul Carlo Angangco served as Manager, Assistant Ensemble Director, soprano section leader, and a resident composer/arranger of the internationally-acclaimed male choir Aleron under the direction of Christopher Arceo from 2012-2019, representing the Philippines at the 11th World Symposium on Choral Music in Barcelona, Spain.

A counter-tenor with particular interest in early music, Raoul Carlo Angangco has also been involved with the Westminster Kantorei (USA), and the Villancico Vocal Ensemble (Philippines) - annually performing at the Las Piñas International Bamboo Organ Festival (Philippines) from 2014-2019 and having served as its Assistant Conductor under Dr. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng in 2019. Having sung with the Westminster Symphonic Choir and Westminster Choir, he is also an alumnus of several major youth choirs: the Sing Philippines Youth Choir, Asia Pacific Youth Choir, and World Youth Choir.

Raoul Carlo Angangco has held conductorships with the Ateneo School of Medicine & Public Health VOX and the University of the Philippines Circuit Chorus, and most recently served as Graduate Assistant Conductor of the Grammy-nominated Westminster Williamson Voices. He also served as External Manager of the professional University of the Philippines Symphony Orchestra directed by Maestro Josefino Chino Toledo in 2018.

A budding composer-arranger, his choral works have been commissioned and performed by multiple established ensembles in concerts, competitions, and recordings both in the Philippines and overseas: most notably by Aleron, the Ateneo College Glee Club, the Dawani Women’s Choir, the Asia Pacific Youth Choir, and the Westminster Williamson Voices.
